BETTY GARRISON HARRELL passed away Monday, August 24 at the age of 86. She was born in Houston April 4, 1923, the daughter of Jack Hodges Garrison and Mary Elizabeth (Bess) Remley Garrison who preceded her in death. She moved to West Columbia as a child with her parents, where her mother managed the Garrison Telephone Company and Betty attended public schools before going on to Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. Betty married Lieutenant William B. (Jack) Harrell, Jr. in the chapel at the Midland Army Air Force Base January 30, 1943. As a devoted mother she cared for her two children, continued her membership in the Episcopal Church and served on the alter guild for a time. She also was an ardent golfer at Golfcrest and Braeburn Country Clubs. She worked in the family insurance agency, later served as an officer in the Harrell, Young and Braniff Agency until her retirement in 1988. Betty and Jack especially enjoyed spending time with their dear friends, creating many special memories at the Bay, Texas Hill Country, west Texas and numerous other destinations. She is survived by her husband, son William B. Harrell, III (Bill) and daughter Jan Elizabeth Harrell, all of Houston as well as numerous family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 27 at 11 am at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, TX. The family will welcome visitors beginning at 10 am. Burial will be in the Confederate Cemetery, Harrell family area. Honorary Pallbearers: Marshall Pearson, Michael Jackson, Kenneth Miears, Gilbert Miears, Bob Young, Noel Braniff, and Rick Rule.
