Dick Kendall Cason III passed away Oct. 8, 2006. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro.
Dick was born June 27, 1922, in Beaumont, Texas. His parents were Dick Cason and Maurine Mills Cason, who both preceded him in death.
He graduated from Rice Institute and received his medical degree from UTMB in Galveston in 1945. He married Maxine "Scotty" Skocdopole Cason in 1946. He served in France and Germany at the end of World War II. They moved to Hillsboro in 1949, where he practiced medicine until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro. He served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member and as Chairman of the building committee. He also served on the judicial council of Grace Presbytery.
He was active in medical politics at the local, state and national level during his entire professional career. He served as President of the Hill County Medical Society. He served on the board of counselors for the Texas Medical Association and served in the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association.
He and his beloved wife, Scotty were extremely active in all facets of the community. He received the Hillsboro Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1956. He served twice as the Chairman of the Industrial Foundation for the city of Hillsboro and was vice-president of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.
He had an abiding passion for music which included a love of opera as well as being the French horn player in a local band known as The Tooters, which was always ready to enthusiactically perform whether they were requested to do so or not.
He was a life-long Rotarian serving as President of the Hillsboro Club, being a member of the District 587 Roll of Fame and Paul Harris Fellow.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Scotty Cason. He has a son, Dick Cason and wife, Ann of Huntsville, Texas; a daughter, Chris Cason of Cleburne; a grandson, Justin Underwood and wife, Tracey of West; two great-grandchildren, Trenton and Taylor Underwood; a granddaughter, Emily de Milliano and husband, Chris of Huntsville; and grandsons, Kendall and Kirby Cason of Huntsville; and one brother, Walter Cason and wife, Mary of Chapel Hill, N. C.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hill College or the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro.
