Earl W. Murray, 46, rural route carrier who for many years delivered mail out of the Kiowa postoffice, died yesterday near Wardville, while on duty.
It was about 2:30 p.m. when Murray, on the homeward lap of the day's service, drove onto a boggy stretch of country road. His car, in spite of chains on its tires, stuck and the mail carrier was obliged to have a farmer bring a team to pull the auto out. This was accomplished and Murray had removed the chains, when he collapsed at the side of his vehicle. Death was almost instantaneous, as he passed away after being placed in his car to be driven home.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Belle Murray and a daughter, Mrs. Esther Smith, of Grand Prairie, Texas. Two sisters, Mrs. J. R. Ray, of Dallas and Mrs. Dave Thompson, Keltus, Tex., also mourn his death.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, from the Methodist church in Kiowa. Chaney's funeral home is in charge.
Interment will be at Dallas, Tex.
