Jinny Jo Walton, 64, wife of Donnie Walton, passed away in Houston on October 2, 2010. She was born on August 5, 1946 in Houston, Texas and raised in Tyler, Texas.
After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1964, Jinny continued her education at Tyler Junior College, where she performed with the Apache Belles.
While attending TJC she met her husband, Donnie, and was married on September 7, 1968. She went on to major in Voice at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.
Jinny lived in Austin while her husband completed his degree at University of Texas. After, they moved to Houston, where they had two sons: Nathan Walton (37) and Shawn Walton (35).
Jinny Jo worked as a Special Education teacher's assistant and Special Education bus driver for almost 20 years. She was also a preschool Sunday school teacher for many years and a Cub Scout den mother, with her dear friend Valerie Condon.
She survived four bouts with cancer: thyroid cancer in 1981, breast cancer in 1991, uterine cancer in 2005, endometrial cancer in 2006. Far from being defeated by the disease, she used her experiences to witness to others about God's healing power and love.
Jinny went out of her way to care for others in need, even when she herself was ill. She took in children who needed a home and a motherly influence in their lives. She cared for the elderly and the infirm as a volunteer aid and caregiver, being more of a true friend than a nurse. Among many others was Wilhemina Liebowitz. Jinny Jo cared for Willie for many years, and upon her passing was given her personal bible. Jinny read this bible daily, and is keeping it with her now.
Jinny was a gifted singer, performing at church as a choir member and soloist, as well as at weddings and funerals for friends and family. She loved all living things, including horses as a child, and a series of ridiculously spoiled lapdogs as an adult.
Jinny Jo is survived by her husband, Donnie Walton; Sons, Nathan Walton and Shawn Walton wife, Stephanie; Sisters, Pamela Washburn and husband, Buddy, Jillien Anthony and husband, Rev. Dr. Charles C. Anthony; Brothers, Kevin Garrison and wife, Denise, Gary Garrison and Greg Garrison and wife, Amy; and Grandsons, Tristan and Mitchell Walton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded by Hugh and Virginia Garrison.
Jinny Jo was a constant caregiver, generous to a fault, who always put others above herself. She will be missed.
"The Lord watch between me and thee, while we are absent one from another."
