Edwin "Eddie" Russell Bird, 90, devoted husband and father passed away peacefully on April 10, 2012 at home in Alvin, Texas.
Edwin Russell Bird was born on February 28, 1922 near Mount Enterprise, Rusk County, Texas, to Albert Herman Bird and Bessie Lee Barrett Bird, where he spent his childhood, attended school and was a member of the basketball team. He was part of the Citizen Military Training Corps at Fort Sam Houston's Camp Bullis prior to joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in September, 1942. He was stationed at Kirtland Air Force base in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he met his wife, Florence MacKaron. During WWII he was stationed in the Philippines as an Aerial Mechanic for the C-46 Commando aircraft. After returning to the United States, Florence and Eddie were married on December 23, 1945. From October 1947 to November 1949, he served a second overseas tour of duty in Japan. The family settled in Gallatin, Texas and then Nacogdoches, Texas and operated a dairy farm before moving to Alvin in 1965. Eddie loved his wife and family and worked hard to provide for them. He enjoyed the open road and was able to enjoy many trips to visit family across the United States. After moving to Alvin he was a union pipefitter and welder. A fishing enthusiast, he was able to enjoy many trips to fish with friends and family. He enjoyed his many projects and had completed his most recent project, outfitting his cargo trailer, which he proudly showed to his family when they gathered to celebrate his 90th birthday at the end of February.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Herman and Bessie Lee Barrett Bird; his loving wife, Florence Bird and brothers, Carl Bird and Clyde Bird.
