Eleanor Sue Foster Garrison, 93, went to be with her Lord Jesus, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at McKinney Memorial Bible Church, 4805 Arborlawn, Fort Worth. The burial will be a private service. Memorials: May be made to Young Life, 5801 Curzon Ave., Ste. 105, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; Dallas Seminary, 3909 Swiss Ave., Dallas, Texas 75204; Pregnancy Lifeline, 4747 Hulen, Ste. 103, Fort Worth, Texas 76132; Search Ministries, 3200 Riverfront Drive, Ste. 104, Fort Worth, Texas 76107; or a charity of choice. Sue was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Fort Worth, to Robert Elmer Foster and Sue Lee Thompson Foster. Her father died in 1926, and Sue's mother raised her and her brother, Bob, by herself after that. Sue graduated from Central High School, attended TCU and the University of Colorado where she received her B.A. in costume design from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University.) While at TSCW she participated with other art students in the furnishing of the celebrated Little Chapel in the Woods. During World War II Sue worked at the Fort Worth aircraft plant (later Lockheed-Martin), and after the war she worked at The Fair Store, Monnig's, Leonard Bros. and other local stores as a fashion illustrator. Sue studied violin under Brooks Morris, conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony, and played in the Fort Worth Symphony for a time. In 1950, Sue began a marriage of 54 years to William "Bill" Garrison. They were among the founders of McKinney Memorial Bible Church. She continued to do freelance fashion illustration during the early years of her marriage, afterwards practicing her love of painting oils, watercolors, gardening and decorating for the rest of her life. She served one term as president of the Fort Worth Lawyer's Wives Association. Sue expressed her Christian faith in teaching Sunday school and children's Bible classes for many years. She participated in ministry with her husband Bill in a number of Christian organizations, including their church, Young Life, Dallas Theological Seminary, Search Ministries, Bible Study Fellowship, the Navigators and Pine Cove Camps. For six years she served in the sometimes trying role of the wife of a Fort Worth City Councilman. During those years Sue and her husband Bill were active in the Fort Worth Sister Cities program, and went on two group trips to Trier, Germany. In the later years of her life she volunteered with Pregnancy Lifeline and the Fort Worth Public Library, and excelled at being a doting grandmother to three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert J. Foster; and her husband. Survivors: She is survived by her sons, Preston, Verne and his wife, Elaine, Gordon and his wife, Kate, Logan and his wife, Jennifer; Carlos Bethencourt of Caracas, Venezuela, who began as a foreign exchange student and became an honorary son; her sisters-in-law, Alma Foster and Doris Hightower; her brother-in-law, Howard Garrison; grandsons, Andrew, William and John Foster; and 14 nieces and nephews.
