Martha B. Moyer, 88, of Salem went to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 25, 2004. Born in Kuttawa, Kentucky, she went on to live in Princeton, Kentucky then moved to Salem, Virginia in the 1960's. She was an active and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem, where she taught in the kindergarten. Martha loved the game of golf and enjoyed playing with her friends at Roanoke Country Club, where she was a member for many years. She also worked in the Pro shop at Lakeview Golf Club and was a recipient of the City of Salem Mother of the Year Award. She is preceded in death by husbands, Frederick G. Stallins and James I. Moyer. Surviving family include daughter, Penny Stallins of Salem; grandchildren, Deborah H. Rutledge and husband, Travis D. Rutledge, and Michael C. Halstrom and wife, Teresa Halstrom; son-in-law, Lt. Col. Ret. James G. Halstrom; one niece and two nephews and the extended families of the Moyers and the Harveys and was also blessed with many close friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 28, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Salem with the Rev. Michael Houff and Dr. Samuel Harvey Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Martha's wishes were to make memorial donations to the Christian Children's Fund, P.O.Box 26511, Richmond, Va. 23294 in memory of Martha B. Moyer. The entire family would like to thank the staff of Richfield Recovery & Care Center in Salem for the great care and support given to Martha over the past four years.
