Travis Kyle Threadgill,"Pee Wee" to family and friends, passed away Monday evening, October 27, 2008, athis home in the Concord community, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was born in Shiloh, TX on July 4, 1928, to James and Patrice Threadgill, and was the youngest of their ten children. He went to school at Mt. Enterprise and was a star on the basketball team in the mid 1940's. He was named to the 1946 Texas high school all-star team. For his athletic skills he received scholarship offers from the University of Texas, Baylor University, and SMU, but he accepted a scholarship to Kilgore College to be near his childhood sweetheart, Cecile Boles. Travis and Cecile married 60 years ago on June 22, 1948.
Travis and Cecile started their family in 1951 with daughter Camille. Three sons, Phil, Greg, and Brian, completed their family.
Travis worked for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation for 37 years in El Dorado, Arkansas, and in Beaumont, TX before retiring in 1983. He and Cecile moved back home to Concord to the restored home of Cecile's grandparents, Gus and Essie Dennard. The home has been designated a Medallion home by the Texas Historical Commission. With all their children grown, Travis put his energy into gardening, golf, and many beloved dogs and cats. Animals and children knew a soft heart when they saw him, and they trusted him. Shy children would take his hand and smile, kittens would curl up on his feet, wild deer played in his yard, and the trees would turn red with cardinals for their afternoon feeding. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to tease and play games with PePa. He was truly a gentle man.
He was loved for his sense of humor and teased for penny-pinching. His golfing buddies were known to be unmerciful teasers, and Pee Wee always got the last word. His buddies tried to get even by making him pay for their snacks, whether or not he won. They always had a lot of fun.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, James and Patrice Threadgill, brothers Carroll, Delmer, Tom, Jackson, Edell, and Luther and sister Martha.
He is survived by his wife Cecile; daughter Camille and husband Ralph Schwausch of Concord; sons, Philip Kyle Threadgill of Dayton, Gregory Boles Threadgill and wife Hanan of Doha, Qatar, and Wm. Brian Threadgill and wife Karyn of Beaumont; sisters, Carrie Patrick of Shiloh and Ann Webb and husband A.W. of Henderson, as well as five grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to caretaker Lisa Sanders.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, from 5 to 7 PM at the Rader Funeral Home in Henderson. The funeral will be at Concord Baptist Church at 2:00 PM Friday, with burial at Concord Cemetery. Dr. Leland Calloway, Rev. Robert Hall, and Rev. Joe Orr will officiate.
Pallbearers are Phil Threadgill, Greg Threadgill, Brian Threadgill, Kyle Threadgill, Ralph Schwausch, Jason Tedrick, Corey Gaspard, and David Ahysen. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Williams, Charlie Brooks, A.W. Webb, James Lee, and Billy Askins.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Concord Baptist Church or to the Concord Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 343, Mt. Enterprise, TX 75681.
