Patricia Skaggs Dowell, 72, born in San Antonio, Texas on April 16, 1936, the daughter of Charles B. and Ruth Skaggs, died on July 10, 2008 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont from effects of a stroke.
She graduated Lamar High School in Houston in 1954, attended the University of Texas and while there was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Sorority.
A resident of Beaumont for over fifty years, she was a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee, 1968-1970; President, Junior League of Beaumont, 1973-1974; Jefferson County Bar Association Auxiliary Board, 1976-1977; Trinity Day School Board, 1974-1977. She was also involved with Central City Development Corporation, United Appeals and Leadership Beaumont.
Patricia was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Dale Dowell of Beaumont; a daughter, Terry Dowell Owens of Beaumont; a son, Jimmy Dowell and his wife Alison; grandchildren, James, Jordan, and Kristopher Dowell, all of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and her mother Ruth Skaggs; and sister, Barbara Gorden both of Texas City.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, with Reverend Bob Shields and John W. Newton IV officiating. John W. Newton III, James Thomas Dowell, Patrick Gorden, John Sandhop, Jr., Stephen Sandhop and David Sandhop will serve as pallbearers. A gathering of family and friends will be 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the mortuary.
