FORT WORTH - Robert J. "Bob" Foster, 71, president of a wholesale pipe supply business, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.
Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Park. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Thursday at McKinney Memorial Bible Church.
Pallbearers will be Lindy Berry, Carl R. Brumley, the Honorable Joe Bruce Cunningham, J. Bryan Kilpatrick, Robert Martin, William T. McKenzie, Richard R. Rector, Dr. John M. Richardson and Burt Weeman. Honorary pallbearers will be the elders of McKinney Memorial Bible Church, the Warner Golf Group at River Crest Country Club and Joe and Narlon Parton, his 50-year business associates.
Memorials: McKinney Memorial Bible Church Building Fund, Young Life of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Arts Council.
Robert J. "Bob" Foster was born March 28, 1926, in Fort Worth, where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Paschal High School and attended Texas A&M University before enlisting in the Army Air Forces in 1944, serving in Europe. Upon the conclusion of his military service, Mr. Foster returned to Fort Worth and enrolled at Texas Christian University. He soon transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, the Texas Cowboys and was a Goodfellow.
Upon graduation from UT, Mr. Foster joined Morrison Supply Co., where he worked for 23 years and departed as branch manager in 1974 to establish Southest Pipe & Supply with Joe and Narlon Parton. Mr. Foster served as president of the company until his death.
His beloved wife of 41 years, Alma, was his partner in every aspect of his life. Mr. Foster was a member of McKinney Memorial Bible Church, River Crest Country Club and The Steeplechase Club. His interests included his Saturday golf matches and supporting the Fort Worth Symphony and the Amon Carter Museum of Art. Mr. Foster's desire in life was to serve the Lord through his involvement in his business, as an elder at McKinney Memorial Bible Church, the board of Young Life and as a husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Elmer Foster and Sue Thompson Foster.
Survivors: His wife of 41 years, Alma Tuttle Foster of Fort Worth; sons, Robert Gregg Foster of Fort Worth and Gary Layne Foster of Houston; sister, Elanor Sue Garrison of Fort Worth [and] brother-in-law, William N. Garrison of Fort Worth; nephews, Preston N. Garrison of San Antonio, Verne Garrison of Fort Worth, Gordon R. Garrison of Austin and Logan L.
